I will be attending Norwescon 33, April 1-4th, 2010 (Easter Weekend), at the Seatac Double Tree Hotel, in Seatac, WA. I will also definitely be on at least one panel, currently titled "Those Scary Publication Contracts", discussing how to understand publication legalese, industry standards, what to look for and what to avoid. (It'll be a lot more fun than you think, trust me. I can be verrrrry entertaining, muahahahaa...)

For more information on this (rather large) science-fiction/fantasy regional convention, visit their webpage at: http://www.Norwescon.org.

I am hoping to get to Norwescon this year. Several of my SCAdian friends have told me about it, and I'm dying to go. We'll see if my civilian and military schedules give me a chance to go.

I'll make a point of trying to say Hi! if I do make it.

PS-Are you going to any SCA events this year? I managed to make my very first 12th Night this year and it was incredible, especially since a member of the mercenary clan I belong to was Knighted.

Ursulmas, naturally, since it's in my home barony and my favorite event of the year...but I don't list that among my appearances on this thread, because I'm not going as an author; I'm going as a Courtier to Their Excellencies of Aquaterra, which is something entirely different. (And a lot more low-key, since it's all about volunteering to help make the event run smoothly and be lots of fun.)

I'm planning on Ursalmas too! I went back in 2008 and had a great time. Very Happy I'm planning on entering the over-40 Archery tournament on Sunday.

So will you be visible during Their Excellencies' Court or are you a 'behind the curtain' type of courtier?

Some of my fellow Shirelings are starting to joke that I have a case of helium hand when it comes to volunteering, but I don't think so. To me it just makes sense that if you can do something to make it work or make it better, then do it! Maybe it's the military influence, but I've never understood why some people just stand around and let other people do things to make their experiences better.

Okay, enough of my griping. Best wishes and see you there.

Slan!

I'm more behind the scenes at the moment, though I've been known to provide court escort duty. I'm also on standby in case any of Their Highnesses need escort- or retinue-for-a-day. I have a bit of heliumhanditis myself, though lately it's been toned down by carefully staying away from the business meetings (which, as we all know, is a leading contributor to just about any flareup of heliumhanditis)...because I just don't have enough energy right now to write books, snag more contracts, buy a house, and be an officer again. Real life (and the whole omgI'mgonnahavehousepayments, eep! thing) has to come first...

Just a reminder thread-bump, I'll be at Norwescon this year not only as an attendee, but also as a panelist/pro! (Yaaay!) I'll be on several panels, and will also be critiquing three stories for people...but don't worry, I'll have time and energy to spare for catching up with people and chatting!

I'm looking forward to it very much. Smile

AHA! I have my "tentative" panels schedule. (*Subject to change, naturally, but...) Yes, plural! Here they are:

Thursday April 1st, 6pm, Cascade 8, "Tragedy Comedy and Fantasy"

Friday April 2nd, 10am, Evergreen 1, "Don't Say It, Have The Characters Say It"

Friday, April 2nd, 4pm-4:30pm, Cascade 3 - READING, excerpt from a future novel, "Theirs Not To Reason Why: A Soldier's Duty" (futuristic military science fiction) (This is the one where I'm just waiting for a contract, yay!)

Saturday, April 3rd, 2pm, Evergreen 3&4 - Autograph Session.

Saturday, April 3rd, 5pm, Cascade 7, "Gender and Sexuality in SF/F"

...Sounds like fun, eh?
Jean

(Saturday at 10am, 1pm, and 4pm, I have Writer's Workshop sessions, but I doubt these will be open-door sessions...)
