The Sword

Book 1 of Sons of Destiny

The first novel of the Sons of Destiny…a romantic tale of magic, superstition, and a love that transcends dimensions.

Eight brothers, born in four sets of twins, two years apart to the day-they fulfill the Curse of Eight Prophecy. To avoid tempting their destiny, the brothers are exiled to Nightfall Island, a land where women are strictly forbidden. But, when the youngest of the mage-brothers rescues a woman from another universe, their world is altered forever.

Kelly Doyle had wanted to get away from the world. Threatened, attacked, and accused of witchcraft, Kelly had enough of her narrow-minded small town. And now she has somehow landed in another, magical dimension-the only woman in a realm inhabited by eight men who are desperately in need of a woman’s touch.

“I could be holding the destruction of Katan in my hands, Morg! You think I’m happy about this? No women!”

Name: Saber of Corvis
Age: 29
Height: 6’1″ (185.5cm)
Weight: 195 lbs  (89.9kg)
Eyes: Steel Grey
Hair: Honey Blond, Straight, Chest Length
Build: Rather Muscular (has the build and bulk of a swordsmith)
Lineage: Eldest son of Lord Saveno, Count of Corvis, and Lady Annia, Countess of Corvis (formerly of Traxon), proclaimed Count of Corvis at age 20 upon Saveno’s death, stripped of title at age 26 upon proclamation of exile by the King of Katan and his Council of Mages.
Twin: Wolfer, younger
Speciality: Martial spells, including weaponsmithing, armorsmithing, metalforging, spellforging.  Mastered the delicate, difficult art of forging enchanted weapons indirectly, allowing them to be Named, and thus summoned instantly to the hand of their wielder upon the appropriate command.
Personality: Accustomed to being in charge of an entire County, including a castle, a small city, a couple of towns, and a dozen smaller villages, Saber has found exiled life both restful and yet boring.  Frustrated with being the key subject of an unspecified Disaster foreseen by an ancient, accredited Katani Seer, he deeply resents the Prophecy that forced his brothers and him into exile on Nightfall Isle, robbing them of their rightful Katani birthright.  He is fiercly protective of his family, but not willing to face down the might of the Council in an open rebellion against their strictures.  Though not the most powerful mage in the family, he is their leader, as the eldest.

“Where am I, how did I get here, who the hell are you, and put me down this minute, buster!”

Name: Kelly Doyle
Age: 27
Height: 5’6″ (167.6cm)
Weight: 105 lbs (47.3kg)
Eyes: Aquamarine
Hair: Strawberry Blond, Straight, Shoulder-Length
Build: Underfed, Yet Surprisingly Wiry (And Freckled)
Lineage: Only daughter of Bart (Bartholomew) Doyle and Olivia Matthewson-Doyle, Kelly was born into that awkward spot, the gap between the generations of her family. Born on Earth, in the Pacific Northwest, she lived there until she lost her parents in a collision with a drunk driver, then moved to the Midwest to her Granny Doyle’s home, which she had inherited. There, she attempted to make a living as a seamstress, embroiderer, and sewing-based entrepeneur, only to be driven into starvation by local prejudices against people who were ‘different’…said difference being a strong interest in the ways of daily life in the Middle Ages.
Speciality: Embroidery, sewing, clothing design, ragdoll making, lacebobbing, trim-weaving, crocheting, knitting, and other forms of playing with cloth and string. Kelly has a brown belt in kung fu (crane style, snake style) which she learned in her youth, and had lessons in proper gun safety and use while in college. She has no close kin left in her family, though she does have a very good, close friend who lives near her Granny Doyle’s place.
Personality: Considered too young to play with the older kids in her neighborhood, and too old to play with the younger ones, Kelly developed a strong level of self-sufficiency and responsibility that was encouraged and reinforced by the Doyle family values of independence and self-reliance. She has undertaken many leadership positions because of this, and has a take-charge, make-do attitude. Sometimes this comes across as rather bossy, but then she usually knows what she wants and is willing to go after it with one or both hands, depending on necessity. She does have a bit of a quick temper, and has been known to unleash it verbally, but is usually very careful to not actually hurt anyone physically, unless it is in defense of herself or another.
